Türkiye earns $154.7 million from coffee exports in 5 years

Türkiye’s coffee export revenue has reached an impressive total of $154.69 million over the nearly five-year period from 2020 to August 2024.

According to data compiled by the Anadolu Agency (AA), coffee exports rose from $20.2 million in 2020 to $39.7 million in 2023.

In the current year, from January to August, Türkiye exported $34.5 million worth of coffee.

Türkiye’s unique coffee processing industry

Despite not growing coffee beans domestically, Türkiye has established a strong coffee processing industry, enabling it to export processed coffee products.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute’s Special Trade System, Türkiye has been able to successfully market its coffee abroad.

Top destinations for Turkish Coffee

The countries with the highest demand for Turkish coffee vary year by year. In the previous year, the United States, the Netherlands, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Belarus and Saudi Arabia were the top importers of Turkish coffee.

In the first eight months of this year, Belarus, KKTC, Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan also ranked among the top markets for Turkish coffee.

Significant coffee imports over 5 years

During the same five-year period, Türkiye’s coffee imports totaled approximately $1.5 billion.

The import figures have also seen a steady increase: from $187.6 million in 2020 to $437 million in 2023, with imports amounting to $284.4 million recorded from January to August of this year.

Leading coffee suppliers to Türkiye

Brazilians, Dutch, and Germans are the main suppliers of coffee to Türkiye, contributing significantly to the country’s coffee market.

Türkiye’s coffee export industry has demonstrated remarkable growth over the past five years, highlighting its potential in the global market.

With increasing export revenues and a diverse range of international buyers – Türkiye is solidifying its position as a key player in the coffee trade.

As the country continues to process and export quality coffee products, it not only enhances its economic standing but also promotes the cultural significance of coffee in its society.

This upward trend in both exports and imports indicates a promising future for Türkiye’s coffee sector – making it an integral part of the nation’s agricultural treasure.
