Israel’s war cabinet has decided to convene under the agenda of “tension with Iran” following the airstrike on Iran’s consulate building in Damascus on April 1.
According to The Times of Israel, the war cabinet will meet in the evening after the broad security cabinet.
The rising tension due to Tehran’s statements of “retaliation against Israel’s Damascus attack” is expected to be discussed in the war cabinet, along with the situation in Gaza and the agreement for the release of Israeli prisoners.
Israel had conducted an airstrike on the consulate building located in the embassy compound of Iran in Damascus on April 1. In the attack, a total of seven individuals, including two generals from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, were reported dead. Additionally, it was reported that six Syrian nationals lost their lives in the attack.
Iran had announced its swift retaliation to the attack, also holding the U.S. responsible for the incident. The Tel Aviv government had not officially claimed responsibility for the attack on Iran’s consulate building in Damascus.
The Israeli army had announced the mobilization of reserve soldiers to “strengthen air defenses” following the attack on Iran’s consulate building in Damascus and canceled all soldiers’ leaves.
