Ukraine strengthens defenses against Russia with 9 security agreements

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announces that Ukraine has signed a military security agreement with Latvia

Ukraine and Latvia signed a defense cooperation agreement to strengthen Ukraine’s capabilities against Russia.

This agreement goes beyond military aid and includes long-term support in economic and political spheres as well.

Latvia is expected to provide up to 112 million euros (119.09 million) to Ukraine in 2024. In the years following 2024, Latvia will dedicate 0.25% of its gross domestic product to Ukraine.

The agreement also includes Latvia establishing a training facility for unmanned aerial vehicle operators in Ukraine.

Ukraine concludes 9 bilateral security agreements

In his statement, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy underlined that Ukraine has already signed bilateral defense agreements with nine countries, including the agreement with Latvia.

Ukraine has initiated discussions with additional countries to establish comparable defense agreements soon. 

Ukraine has previously signed defense cooperation agreements with the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, and Finland. These negotiations aim to expand Ukraine’s defense capacity and network.
