Turkish Parliament is meeting Friday to address the issue of Can Atalay’s parliamentary status, following his election as a member of the Turkish Workers’ Party (TIP).

The opposition seeks to align actions with the Constitutional Court’s recent decision, which declared that the Supreme Court ruling enabling Atalay’s removal from office is null and void.

Extraordinary meetings in Parliament can be convened with the signatures of one-fifth of the total membership. Therefore, today’s meeting does not guarantee a final decision on Atalay’s status but is a step in the ongoing process.

For a definitive resolution, the Constitutional Court’s decision may need to be reviewed or suspend the execution of Atalay’s judgment may need to be issued following a retrial.
