FM Fidan calls for unity among Turkic nations at OTS Summit
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan underscored the importance of bolstering regional cooperation and solidarity among Turkic nations amid global power dynamics.
Fidan emphasized the necessity of fortifying joint efforts to shield the region from global power competitions at the Informal Summit of the Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).

During the summit held in Shusha, Azerbaijan, Fidan highlighted the principles of regional ownership and cooperation as fundamental to enhancing joint endeavors, proposing a strategic framework for collaboration across various sectors including connectivity, energy, finance, trade, defense, and technology.
Regional issues
Acknowledging Azerbaijan’s sacrifices during its 44-day war, Fidan commended the OTS as a crucial platform in today’s disrupted global order. He advocated for the expansion of educational and youth initiatives, emphasizing the importance of cultural unity through alphabet standardization.
The minister also stressed the significance of supporting diaspora communities, affirming Türkiye’s commitment to preserving their identities. He proposed the establishment of liaison offices and contact embassies to strengthen institutional relations with like-minded countries.
Addressing regional challenges, Fidan reaffirmed Türkiye’s steadfast support for Azerbaijan’s peace negotiations with Armenia, criticizing what he described as a biased stance by certain Western nations.
On matters concerning the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Fidan called for increased representation and economic integration within the OTS framework.
He proposed measures such as the establishment of a trade office and initiatives to enhance tourist and diplomatic relations.
International issues
Regarding broader international issues, Fidan emphasized the urgency of expanding peace efforts in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and advocated for a diplomatic resolution to mitigate polarization.
He also underscored Türkiye’s commitment to stability in Afghanistan and highlighted efforts to address counterterrorism and border security with neighboring countries.
Condemning the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Fidan urged support for international legal measures to address the Israel-Palestine conflict.
In concluding remarks, Fidan expressed optimism about the OTS’ expanding international influence and reiterated the importance of unity among member states.
