Israeli defense minister urges for 10,000 additional troops amid escalating attacks
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant Tuesday announced an urgent need for 10,000 additional soldiers amid ongoing tensions with Lebanon and Gaza.
Speaking at the Parliamentary Security Committee, Gallant emphasized the necessity of recruiting 4,800 Ultra-Orthodox Jews (Haredim), who have been protesting against mandatory military service.
According to Israeli army radio, Gallant highlighted the critical shortage of troops, while Channel 12 reported a significant increase in soldiers seeking retirement.
Since the onset of Israel’s attacks on Gaza, nearly 900 officers, typically averaging 100 to 120 retirements per year, have requested to terminate their contracts, citing dissatisfaction with the army’s performance against Hamas.
