The upcoming visit of Kuwaiti Emir Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to Türkiye signifies a pivotal moment in strengthening bilateral cooperation, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations

The upcoming visit of Kuwaiti Emir Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to Türkiye today holds significant importance in advancing and strengthening existing cooperation between the two nations, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Emir Sabah, who assumed office on December 16, 2023, will embark on his first official visit outside of the Arab world during this trip to Türkiye, marking the first visit at the emir level from Kuwait to Türkiye in seven years.

The historical ties of friendship and brotherhood form the foundation of the relationship between the two countries, which are committed to maintaining regional peace and stability through various avenues of cooperation in trade, defense, tourism, and investment.

Turkish and Kuwaiti officials are intensifying their dialogue and collaboration in response to the need for more frequent discussions on regional and global developments.

The determination of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Kuwaiti Emir Sabah to bolster bilateral friendship underscores efforts to deepen relations across diverse domains.

Discussions will include Gaza, defense, tourism

The primary discussion topic between the leaders will focus on the Israel-Palestine dispute, reflecting their shared stance on this critical regional issue.

In addition to regional matters, the bilateral agenda encompasses key areas such as trade, defense, tourism, and investment with the signing of new agreements expected.

According to reports from the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) regarding Emir Sabah’s visit, significant agreements have been signed between Türkiye and Kuwait in economic, industrial, and technical domains since 1983, with the first meeting of the Turkish-Kuwait Joint Cooperation Committee held in October 2013 resulting in the signing of 62 agreements spanning various fields.

Trade volume stands at $700 million

While trade between Kuwait and Türkiye reached approximately $700 million in 2023, efforts are underway to enhance mutual trade and investments through sectoral diversification and new cooperation mechanisms.

With over 400 Kuwaiti companies operating in Türkiye and around 50 Turkish companies in Kuwait, primarily in the construction sector, Türkiye has undertaken numerous projects in Kuwait, including the construction of Kuwait’s new international airport, totaling $9.2 billion. Meanwhile, Kuwait’s direct investments in Türkiye have amounted to $2 billion.

Turkish firms are poised to contribute further to Kuwait’s transformation process, aiming to implement new investments and projects while reducing dependency on oil revenue under the 2035 vision.

Türkiye remains a favored destination for Kuwaiti citizens in terms of tourism, medical treatment, and real estate investment, with Kuwait ranking among the top 10 countries whose citizens purchase real estate in Türkiye.

While Türkiye welcomed approximately 400,000 Kuwaiti tourists in 2023, efforts are underway to promote Kuwait as a tourist destination for Turkish citizens as well.
