Main opposition leader Ozel calls for major ‘Wheat Producers Rally’ in Tekirdag

Republican People’s Party (CHP)’s, the main opposition party in Türkiye, Chairman Ozgur Ozel has announced a major rally for wheat producers in Tekirdag on June 14, Friday.

This announcement was made during an event in Izmir, where Ozel criticized the current wheat prices, expressing solidarity with the farmers.

Wheat producers are in revolt. We will hold a rally with them in Tekirdag. I am calling out to Türkiye: You are not alone. We are here, fighting for you.

Ozel had previously organized a rally with tea producers in Rize, where the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) has many supporters. With this step, CHP aims to increase its supporter base after the last elections. The opposition party is initiating such movements in regions where AK Party holds major support.

Ozel highlighted the financial struggles faced by wheat producers, emphasizing the sharp increase in input costs.

Announcing the rally to amplify the voice of wheat producers, Ozel stated: “Next Friday, as the CHP, we are heading to Tekirdag to make the voice of wheat producers heard throughout Türkiye. We are organizing a wheat rally.”
