The U.S. continues to support the sale of F-16s to Turkiye, White House says

The U.S. will continue to support the sale of F-16s to Turkiye and the modernization of the fleet, White House National Security Council Spokesman John Kirby said at his daily press briefing on Wednesday.

“We have had a consistent policy position on this issue since we took office. We continue to support the sale of additional F-16s and the modernization of Turkiye’s F-16 fleet,” he stressed.

Regarding when the U.S. Congress will be officially notified about the sale of the F-16s, Kirby said that he could not express a clear date on the sales schedule.

Turkiye submitted a letter of intent to the U.S. to purchase 40 Block-70 F-16 fighter jets and 79 modernization kits in October 2021. In its statements to date, the U.S. administration has expressed its support for selling F-16s to Turkiye but has avoided clear statements about when it will officially notify Congress.
