Spain’s Culture Minister Ernest Urtasun sharply criticized the Spanish state television RTVE for not reacting to the participation of Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest, which has been massacring Gazans since October 7, 2023

Ernest Urtasun, Minister of Culture and spokesperson for the Sumar Alliance, the junior partner in Spain’s leftist coalition government, blamed Spanish state television RTVE for not reacting to Israel’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest.

“Millions of people are ashamed that the Eurovision organization has served to whitewash Israel’s ongoing genocide,” Urtasun told the press.

Accusing the management of Spain’s state broadcaster RTVE of ‘helping to whitewash Israel’s genocide by keeping silent about its participation in Eurovision,’ Culture Minister Urtasun said he would summon the head of RTVE to Parliament to answer questions from MPs on the issue.

Urtasun asked RTVE to guarantee that it will never again help whitewash Israel’s genocide, as it did in the Eurovision Song Contest. “Allowing Israel to participate in Eurovision is incompatible with RTVE’s values,” the Spanish culture minister said, adding that the Sumar alliance has made great efforts, especially on social media, to prevent Israel from participating in the contest.
