Former President Donald Trump endorses Senate candidate Bernie Moreno in Ohio’s primary race, warning of “bloodbath” if he fails to secure another term

Former President Donald Trump made a fervent appearance on the campaign trail in Ohio on Saturday, throwing his support behind Senate candidate Bernie Moreno while issuing ominous warnings of a ‘bloodbath’ should he not be reelected.

Speaking at a rally outside of Dayton, Trump endorsed Moreno as an “America first champion” and a stalwart against establishment politics. The event, hosted by the Buckeye Values PAC, served as a platform for Trump’s impassioned rhetoric, focusing heavily on the stakes of the upcoming election.

“The future of Ohio and our nation is at stake,” Trump declared to a cheering crowd. “We need fighters like Bernie Moreno in Washington to stand up for our values and protect our way of life.”

The GOP primary race, slated for Tuesday, pits Moreno against Secretary of State Frank LaRose and state Sen. Matt Dolan. LaRose and Moreno have aligned themselves with the pro-Trump faction of the party, while Dolan garners support from more traditional Republicans, including Gov. Mike DeWine and former Sen. Rob Portman.

In his characteristically blunt style, Trump warned of impending catastrophe should he fail to secure another term, painting a grim picture of economic collapse and political turmoil under a Biden administration. His remarks, laced with profanity, underscored his unwavering commitment to his political agenda.

“If I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s going to be the least of it. It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country,” Trump warned, his voice rising with intensity.

The rally also served as a stage for Trump to address recent controversies surrounding Moreno, including allegations of misconduct and attacks from within the Republican Party. Trump staunchly defended Moreno, dismissing the accusations as politically motivated and vowing to stand by him in the face of adversity.

“These baseless attacks are nothing but a desperate attempt by my opponents to smear my character and distract from the real issues facing our country,” Moreno asserted, standing alongside Trump. “But I won’t be deterred. I’m in this fight to win, and with the support of President Trump and the people of Ohio, we will prevail.”

Despite past criticisms of Trump, Moreno embraced the former president at the rally, praising him as a “great American” and condemning those within the GOP who question Trump’s leadership.

“President Trump is a true patriot who has fought tirelessly for the American people,” Moreno declared, drawing cheers from the crowd. “I am proud to stand with him and carry forward his America first agenda.”

Trump reciprocated the support, hailing Moreno as a hero and a winner amidst the ongoing scrutiny. “Bernie Moreno is a true fighter who will stand up to the radical left and defend our values,” Trump declared, his words met with applause.

The event also saw Trump doubling down on his stance regarding Social Security, accusing Biden of jeopardizing the program’s future. Despite Biden’s assurances to the contrary, Trump reiterated his commitment to protecting Social Security and Medicare, framing them as essential pillars of American society.

“In a second Biden term, you will not have Social Security, you will not have Medicare,” Trump asserted, his tone grave. “We must elect leaders who will safeguard these vital programs for future generations.”

In addition to his political endorsements, Trump took aim at Biden’s handling of immigration, characterizing migrants as less than human and lambasting his administration’s border policies. He also launched attacks against Dolan, branding him a “weak RINO” and criticizing his family’s decision to change the name of Cleveland’s baseball team.

“Matt Dolan is a disgrace to the Republican Party,” Trump declared, his voice dripping with contempt. “He is weak on immigration, weak on crime, and weak on defending our American values.”

Trump’s support for Moreno dealt a significant blow to LaRose, who had sought to curry favor with the former president in recent months. With the primary just days away, the race remains highly contested, with implications reaching beyond Ohio’s borders.

The winner of Tuesday’s primary will go on to face third-term Sen. Sherrod Brown in what is expected to be a closely watched battle for control of the Senate. Brown, a stalwart Democrat in a state that has shifted to the right in recent years, faces the challenge of retaining his seat in a politically charged environment.
