Kosovo’s Defense Minister Ejup Maqedonci emphasized the strategic significance of Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the Kosovo Security Force (FSK) inventory. He stated, “Having the Bayraktar UAVs strengthens Kosovo’s defense and enhances safety against existing and potential threats and dangers.”

Minister Maqedonci shared a post on his social media account about his visit with FSK Commander Bashkim Jashari to the unmanned aerial systems unit stationed at the military airport in Yakova, southwestern Kosovo.

Mentioning that they closely monitor FSK’s operations with the Bayraktar TB2 UAVs, Maqedonci said: “Our army, with well-trained and dedicated officers and soldiers along with the Bayraktar UAVs in our weapons systems inventory, makes Kosovo feel stronger and safer against current and potential threats and dangers. We will continue to equip FSK with modern and advanced weapon systems, serving Kosovo’s defense and security and preserving peace in the country and the region.”

Established in 2009 to ensure crisis management operations in Kosovo and beyond the borders, and to perform duties in civil defense operations and emergencies, FSK started the process of transformation into the armed forces in 2018 through legal changes. The process is expected to last for 10 years.

Last year, reports indicated that Kosovo purchased Bayraktar TB2 UAVs from Türkiye. Additionally, FSK’s military inventory includes numerous Turkish products.
