Türkiye security operations neutralize 923 terrorists in 2023
Over 23,000 operations led by Türkiye’s security forces successfully neutralized 923 terrorists and prevented significant terrorist activities
In 2023, Türkiye’s security forces neutralized 923 terrorists in comprehensive counterterrorism operations, encompassing 3,911 urban and 19,682 rural missions targeting various terrorist organizations spanning from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2023, Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said.
The minister’s recent statement highlighted the collective efforts of the Gendarmerie General Command, the General Directorate of Security, and the Coast Guard Command. These operations focused on countering multiple terrorist groups, including the separatist terrorist organization FETO, DEAS and leftist terrorist groups.
The operations resulted in the detention of 7,716 suspects, leading to 1,555 arrests, while judicial control orders were issued for another 1,683 individuals. In the operations specifically targeting FETO, 9,639 suspects were detained, with 1,689 arrests and judicial control orders for 1,677 suspects. In the case of DEAS, 2,800 suspects were detained, 738 of whom were arrested, and 650 received judicial control orders. Operations against leftist terrorist organizations led to 737 detentions, 97 arrests, and 207 judicial control orders.
Of the neutralized terrorists, 64 were identified as high-level operatives, categorized as one blue, two green, 16 orange and 37 grey. The minister noted that their operations also successfully prevented 163 planned actions, including 124 bomb attacks.
In his statement, Yerlikaya emphasized Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to its national security and unity. He praised the valor and dedication of the security forces involved in these operations, asserting that the fight against terrorism will continue with determination until the last terrorist is neutralized.
