Farewell ceremony was held at the International Space Station (ISS) for the Axiom-3 (Ax-3) team, including Alper Gezeravci, who went to the ISS with the Dragon capsule as part of NASA’s Ax-3 mission

A farewell ceremony was organised on the International Space Station (ISS) for the Axiom-3 (Ax-3) crew, including Türkiye’s first astronaut Alper Gezeravci.

Axiom Space broadcasted the farewell ceremony prepared for the Ax-3 crew, including the first Turkish astronaut Gezeravci, live.

Gezeravci said, “I am very grateful to my country, the Republic of Türkiye, for their courageous and determined decision to step into manned space mission in the honourable centennial anniversary.”

In his speech at the farewell ceremony, Gezeravci stated that he felt truly honoured and privileged to be a part of this team, and expressed his gratitude to the Expedition 70 crew for their great support, hospitality and kindness to the Expedition 70 crew, who have been on the ISS for the last two weeks while the Ax-3 team has been carrying out its activities.

Stating that the Expedition 70 crew was very supportive, Gezeravci also thanked Michael Lopez-Alegria, Ax-3 mission leader, for his leadership.

Gezeravci thanked everyone who took part in Axiom for 2 weeks for their support to the Ax-3 team at every stage of the mission and said, “I am very grateful to my country, the Republic of Türkiye, for their courageous and determined decision to take a step towards a manned space mission in the honourable centenary anniversary.”
