EU sanctions on Israeli settlers delayed amid objections

EU’s bid for sanctions on Israeli settlers for West Bank attacks stalled by objections from Hungary and Czech Republic

Efforts within the European Union to impose sanctions on Israeli settlers accused of attacking Palestinians in the West Bank have hit a roadblock, reportedly due to objections from Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Both countries are allies of Israel.

European diplomats suggest that a compromise might be reached later to allow the measures to move forward, potentially following additional EU sanctions targeting Hamas.

However, some European officials have voiced growing concerns about escalating violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. The U.S. and Britain have echoed similar worries and have already implemented sanctions against several settlers they allege are involved in violent activities.

In December, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell stated his intention to propose similar measures, indicating ongoing efforts within the EU to address the situation.
