Poland deploys Bayraktar TB2 UAV to Türkiye’s Incirlik for Mediterranean, Black Sea missions
The Polish Army has announced its first international deployment of Bayraktar TB2 drones, a globally recognized unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that gained prominence during the Ukraine conflict.
The drones will patrol the Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea regions in cooperation with NATO naval forces, according to Polish media reports.
Poland’s deployment details to Türkiye
The Bayraktar TB2 drones, supplied by Türkiye, will be part of Poland‘s military contingent operating under NATO’s tailored assurance measures in Türkiye.
The mission, scheduled to last six months, will conclude in June 2025. Polish troops equipped with Bayraktar TB2s will support reconnaissance and observation tasks as part of the Polish Land Forces (Wojska Lądowe/PKW) Türkiye mission.
In a social media statement, the 12th Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Base in Mirosławiec, Poland, highlighted the deployment, stating, “Our soldiers will now execute NATO tasks in the Mediterranean and Black Sea. We wish them a successful mission and safe return.”
Bayraktar TB2’s role and recognition
The Bayraktar TB2 drone played a pivotal role in destroying Russian military equipment during the Ukraine war, significantly boosting its international reputation.
Poland was one of the countries that added Bayraktar TB2 drones to its military inventory, recognizing their versatility and effectiveness.
Advancements in UAV technology: Bayraktar TB3
Meanwhile, Baykar, the Turkish company behind Bayraktar drones, is advancing its UAV technology with the development of the Bayraktar TB3.
The TB3 is larger and more capable than its predecessor, featuring an increased payload capacity, six weapon hard points, and the ability to stay airborne for over 50 hours.
