Türkiye and Syria to develop new roadmap following talks
Sources from Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defense (MoD) have provided insights into recent discussions with a Syrian delegation in Ankara, emphasizing plans to support Syria’s new administration in counterterrorism and capacity building.
The meeting, characterized as a significant first step, was noted for its focus on bilateral cooperation.
“We have expressed our intent to support the new Syrian administration,” Turkish MoD sources stated, adding that specific needs will be determined once state institutions in Syria become operational.
Commitment to counterterrorism and capacity building
Türkiye has pledged full support in strengthening Syria‘s defense capacities and counterterrorism efforts. “Technical studies are necessary to identify needs,” Turkish Defense Ministry sources explained.
“Our concern is solely with terrorists, not any ethnic group. The terror group YPG has displaced 1.5 million people in Syria,” sources told.
The ministry highlighted the ongoing monitoring of clashes between the Syrian National Army and PKK/YPG forces in the Tishrin Dam area.
“The terror group’s use of civilians as human shields and attempts to manipulate international opinion through misinformation will not be tolerated,” sources said.
Türkiye’s collaborative approach with Syria
Turkish Defense Ministry officials underlined that Türkiye’s support for Syria would align with a mutually agreed roadmap. “Our assistance will be tailored to their requirements, ensuring a sustainable process where all parties benefit,” sources emphasized.
This collaborative framework aims to establish a secure and stable environment in the region.
