A German diplomat, reportedly working as a spy for the German foreign intelligence service, was found dead in his apartment in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, under mysterious circumstances, per Germany’s Bild newspaper.

The diplomat, identified as Thomas Fielder, was living inside the high-security Diplomatic Enclave located in Karakoram Heights and was working as a second secretary at the German embassy. According to the German publication, Fielder was an employee of German foreign intelligence—the Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND).

German spy’s death raises questions

The deceased, with his eyes, nose, and mouth bleeding, was discovered at his residence by an embassy employee who was sent to check on him after he failed to respond to the work call and was absent from work for two consecutive days, reported the Pakistani media.

The police were later told that Fielder was a heart patient, but the exact time and cause of his death remain uncertain.
