President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday that he would order intervention to prevent any splintering of Syria, particularly targeting the PKK/YPG terrorist group.

“We cannot accept under any pretext that Syria be divided. If we detect the slightest risk, we will take the necessary measures,” Erdogan said after a Cabinet meeting. He assured that Türkiye has the means to take action if required.

Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to its survival and security, adding that, if necessary, “We can come suddenly one night,” using one of his signature phrases.

He warned that those who resort to terror and violence will meet the same fate — “to be buried with their weapons.”

“Türkiye won’t accept Syria’s fragmentation or disruption of its unitary structure,” Erdogan stressed, reiterating that swift action would be taken if any threat arises.

He also clarified that Ankara’s investments in the defense industry are not aimed at preparing for war but are intended to preserve peace, independence, and sovereignty.

Bashar al-Assad, Syria’s regime leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after anti-regime groups took control of Damascus on Dec. 8, ending the Baath Party’s rule, which had been in power since 1963.

The takeover came after Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) captured key cities in a lightning offensive that lasted less than two weeks.

A transitional administration led by Ahmed al-Sharaa has now taken charge.
