Zelenskyy urges Japan for support amid escalating conflict with Russia

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy emphasizes the need for increased support from Japan in addressing the escalating conflict with Russia, including critical military aid

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke by phone with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida Wednesday, addressing the critical situation on the frontline and the essential requirements of Ukraine’s armed forces.

Expressing appreciation via Telegram, Zelenskyy thanked the Japanese government for its substantial financial assistance to Ukraine, totaling over $12 billion, and for allocating additional funds.

During the conversation, Zelenskyy provided Kishida with an update on the ongoing conflict with Russia, highlighting recent missile and drone attacks targeting Ukrainian territory.

Advocating for heightened sanctions against Russia and the seizure of its frozen assets, Zelenskyy praised Japan’s efforts in imposing and expanding sanctions on Moscow, which began following Russia’s incursion into Ukraine over two years ago.

Additionally, the Ukrainian president outlined the country’s specific military equipment needs, emphasizing requirements for fortification construction, mine clearance operations, and enhanced medical evacuation capabilities.

In a separate statement, Zelenskyy disclosed that Russia had conducted a series of strikes in March, deploying over 400 missiles of various types, 600 Shahed drones and 3,000 guided aviation bombs, with the city of Kharkiv bearing the brunt of the recent attacks.

Zelenskyy underscored the urgent need for reliable air defense systems, asserting that such measures are crucial to safeguarding Ukrainian lives and restoring security to conflict-affected cities.
