World leaders extend condolences over Raisi’s death
Following the helicopter crash on Sunday that tragically claimed the life of Iranian President Raisi, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and many other leaders extend their condolences
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, a hardliner long seen as a potential successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in a helicopter crash in mountainous terrain near the Azerbaijan border, officials and state media said on Monday.
The helicopter was also carrying Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and six other passengers and crew.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
“I extend my condolences to the esteemed counterpart and brother, President Ibrahim Raisi of the Islamic Republic of Iran, whose passing we sadly learned of due to the helicopter crash. May Allah grant him mercy.
I also pray for the souls of Iran’s Foreign Minister and others who lost their lives in the same helicopter accident.
I convey my deepest condolences to the esteemed Iranian Supreme Leader, Mr. Ali Khamenei, and to the friendly and brotherly Iranian people, government, and the families of President Raisi and the other deceased.

China’s President Xi Jinping said that the “tragic death” of Raisi in a helicopter crash was “a great loss to the Iranian people,” according to Beijing’s foreign ministry.
“President Xi Jinping pointed out… His tragic death is a great loss to the Iranian people, and the Chinese people have lost a good friend,” foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a regular press conference.
Russian President Vladimir Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Raisi was an “outstanding” leader.
“Raisi was an outstanding politician whose entire life was dedicated to serving his homeland,” Putin said. “As a true friend of Russia, he made an invaluable personal contribution to the development of good-neighborly relations between our countries.”
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Raisi and his foreign minister, who also died in the crash, had been “true friends” of Moscow. “In Russia, President Raisi and Foreign Minister (Hossein) Amir-Abdollahian were seen as true and reliable friends of our country,” Lavrov said, describing them as “patriots… who firmly defended the interests of their State and gave their lives in selfless service to the Motherland.”

In a statement of condolence, Assad affirmed Syria’s solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Iran and the families of the dead, adding that Raisi’s dedication to his work and duties had taken him to East Azerbaijan to inaugurate a vital project for his country, where he was martyred in the line of duty.
Assad added that Syria had worked with the late president to ensure strategic ties between Syria and Iran remained prosperous, recalling Raisi’s important visit to Syria as part of enhancing ties for the benefit of both nations.
