World leaders congratulate Donald Trump on election victory
Following Donald Trump’s claim of victory in the U.S. presidential election, leaders from around the world offered congratulations and expressed hope for future collaboration on global issues ranging from security to economic growth. Statements of support poured in from Ukraine, the United Kingdom, France, NATO, Israel, and India.
Zelensky says hopes Trump ‘victory’ will bring ‘just peace in Ukraine closer’
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian president, has congratulated Donald Trump on an “impressive” election “victory.”
President Zelenskyy said he appreciated Trump’s “commitment to ‘peace through strength’ approach” to global affairs and that the principle could “bring just peace in Ukraine closer.”
“I am hopeful that we will put it into action together. We look forward to an era of a strong United States of America under President Trump’s decisive leadership,” he said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Donald Trump on his “impressive victory” in U.S. elections and said he hoped his presidency would bring “just peace in Ukraine closer.”
“I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to the ‘peace through strength’ approach in global affairs. This is exactly the principle that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer,” Zelensky said in a statement on social media.
Starmer: ‘As closest of allies, we stand shoulder-to-shoulder’
We’ve had some reaction from Sir Keir Starmer now, who has congratulated Donald Trump on his looming election victory.
“Congratulations president-elect Trump on your historic election victory. I look forward to working with you in the years ahead,” he said.

Macron congratulates Trump
French leader Emmanuel Macron has congratulated Donald Trump on his apparent victory. “Congratulations President Donald Trump,” he said in French on X.
“Ready to work together as we have done for four years. With your convictions and with mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity.” Macron said.
NATO chief congratulates Trump, says will keep alliance ‘strong’
NATO chief Mark Rutte on Wednesday congratulated Donald Trump for winning the U.S. presidential election and said his return to power will help keep the alliance “strong.”
“His leadership will again be key to keeping our Alliance strong. I look forward to working with him again to advance peace through strength through NATO,” Rutte said in a statement.
China
As the results began to go Trump’s way, China said it hoped for “peaceful coexistence” with the United States.
“We will continue to approach and handle China-U.S. relations based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told a regular briefing.
“We respect the choice of the American people.”
Israel’s Netanyahu congratulates Trump for ‘history’s greatest comeback’
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday congratulated Donald Trump, calling it “history’s greatest comeback” and a new beginning in the U.S.-Israel alliance.
“Congratulations on history’s greatest comeback! Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America. This is a huge victory!” said Netanyahu in a statement issued by his office.

India’s Modi congratulates Trump on ‘historic election victory’
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Donald Trump for a “historic election victory” Wednesday, adding that he was looking forward to working with the vote frontrunner.
“Heartiest congratulations my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory,” Modi wrote on social media platform X. “As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration.”
Czech premier congratulates Trump amid vote counting in US
The Czech Prime Minister on Wednesday congratulated Republican candidate and former U.S. President Donald Trump over his apparent election victory.
“Our shared goal is to ensure that relations between our countries remain at the highest level, despite changes in administration, and that we continue to develop them for the benefit of our citizens,” Petr Fiala wrote on X.
Addressing supporters in the state of Florida, Trump hailed his “magnificent victory.”
Financial markets
The dollar surged, bitcoin hit a record high and European stocks rallied.
Trump has pledged to make the United States the “bitcoin and cryptocurrency capital of the world” and to put tech billionaire Elon Musk in charge of a wide-ranging audit of governmental waste.
“The markets are scrambling to figure out what happens next, but for the time being, the market is pricing in a higher growth and higher inflation outlook,” said Peter Esho, economist and founder at Esho Capital.
