During a 9/11 memorial event marking the 23rd anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, President Joe Biden wore a hat that read “Trump 2024.”

Biden attended the event with Americans at the Shanksville Fire Station in Pennsylvania to commemorate the 9/11 attacks.

In a closed-door event, Biden was seen speaking with a supporter of former President Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for the upcoming presidential election, who gave him a “Trump 2024” hat. The moment when Biden put on the hat was caught on camera.

The images quickly spread on social media and sparked a reaction among Republican Party supporters. The party’s campaign account on X (formerly Twitter) shared Biden’s photo with the hat, captioned, “Thanks for the support, Joe!”

White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates responded on X, explaining that Biden had been speaking about “unity.” Bates added, “President Biden gave a hat to a Trump supporter as a gesture, and then the supporter asked him to wear his hat, which he did briefly.”
