US president criticizes Ottoman Empire at Greek National Day Event
U.S. President Joe Biden targeted the Ottoman Empire at the Greek National Day reception he hosted at the White House
U.S. President Joe Biden hosted a reception at the White House in honor of Greek National Day. Speaking at the event attended by numerous Greeks, Biden praised the Greek community, oddly attributing his presence to them.
In his speech, Biden said, “If I am here today, it is because of the Greek community. I’m not exaggerating. My real name is Joe Bidenopolis.”
Furthermore, the U.S. president criticized the Ottoman Empire, saying, “I congratulate Greece for breaking away from the Ottoman Empire. Our alliance will always continue.”
United against Türkiye
Recently, the U.S. sent additional troops to the town of Alexandroupoli in Greece, which is located near the Turkish border. It had previously sent F-35 fighter jets as well.
The Biden administration also supports Greece’s arming of the Aegean islands, and experts argue that the U.S. is trying to encircle Türkiye from the south, viewing the PKK terrorist group’s presence in Syria and Greece as significant partners.
