Recent leaks from U.S. intelligence sources have shed light on Israel’s extensive military preparations against Iran, coinciding with U.S. President Joe Biden’s comments indicating he has a “good understanding” of Israel’s planned response to Iranian missile attacks.

In remarks made after his visit to Berlin, Biden emphasized his awareness of the timing and strategy Israel is considering as tensions escalate in the region. While he did not disclose specifics, Biden answered “Yes, and Yes,” to the reporter’s question whether he has a “good understanding” of when and how Israel will retaliate against Iran.

The leaked intelligence documents provide critical insights into Israel’s military maneuvers. They detail large-scale exercises conducted by the Israeli Air Force (IAF) from October 15-16, simulating potential strikes on Iranian targets. These exercises included the use of long-range air-launched ballistic missiles (ALBMs) and covert drone operations, with significant movements of military assets reported since early October.

According to one document, at least 16 Golden Horizon ALBMs and 40 ISO2 Rocks ALBMs were relocated, with training operations involving refueling and aerial support being conducted at multiple airfields, including Hatzor and Ramat David. The exercises highlight Israel’s preparation for a multifaceted military response, underscoring the seriousness with which it views the threat from Iran.

Further assessments from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency indicate a heightened state of alert within Israeli forces. While weapons handling capabilities remain assessed at medium to low, there are notable increases in missile defense readiness and covert drone flights. Ground operations related to Iranian proxies have been limited, suggesting that Israel may be adopting a defensive strategy while simultaneously preparing for possible offensive actions.

Biden’s acknowledgment of his awareness of Israel’s military plans reinforces the intricate connections between U.S. intelligence assessments and Israeli strategic decisions. As tensions continue to rise, the implications of these military preparations and Biden’s statements may shape the ongoing discourse around a potential conflict in the Middle East.
