Ursula von der Leyen secures 2nd term as European Commission president
Ursula von der Leyen secured support from lawmakers on Thursday for a second term as the president of the European Commission, the executive arm of the European Union.
The 720-member European Parliament approved her candidacy with a vote of 401-284, while there were 15 abstentions and seven void votes.
Von der Leyen is thus entitled to continue as president of the EU Commission for another five years, a position she has held since 2019.
The 65-year-old conservative politician first assumed office as the president of the European Commission on Dec. 1, 2019.
