According to a statement Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared on social media on Thursday, Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi has been removed from his post as a step to a renewal process to the Ukrainian Army that President Zelensky said, “The time for such a renewal is now.`
Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced on Thursday that Ukraine’s senior commander, Valery Zaluzhny, who oversaw Kyiv’s military throughout Russia’s invasion, had been dismissed from his position. “Today, the Armed Forces of Ukraine decided to elect a new commander.” Umerov said on social media, “I am truly grateful for all of his accomplishments and victories.”
Shortly after being relieved of his duties on Thursday, Ukraine’s departing army chief, Valery Zaluzhny, acknowledged that the nation’s military policy “must change” nearly two years after Russia’s invasion.
“The 2022 tasks differ from the 2024 tasks. As a result, everyone has to adjust to the new circumstances. Zaluzhny stated, “In order to win together,” following the news of his long-rumored dismissal.
