Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported Ukrainian forces launched an overnight attack with 337 drones (UAVs) on Russian territory, with the drones being shot down by Russian air defense systems.

The attack marks one of the most intense drone assaults in Moscow since the beginning of the Ukraine war.

The drone strike reflects the escalating use of UAVs in the conflict, with both sides increasingly using such technology for cross-border operations.

Casualties in Moscow, including one death and three injuries, highlight the rising risks for civilian areas in Russia because of the ongoing war.

Details

  • 337 Ukrainian drones were launched overnight, with Russian air defenses successfully downing the majority.
  • The drones targeted several Russian regions: 91 over Moscow, 126 over Kursk, 38 over Bryansk, 25 over Belgorod, 22 over Ryazan and 10 over Kaluga.
  • Sergey Sobyanin, Moscow’s mayor, confirmed the ongoing nature of the attacks.
  • This is considered the most intense drone assault on Moscow since the war’s onset, resulting in one death and three injuries.

UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) have become a key aspect of modern warfare, with both Russia and Ukraine utilizing drones for surveillance, intelligence gathering, and direct strikes.

As the war intensifies, drone strikes on civilian infrastructure and cities have been increasingly frequent, shifting the nature of the conflict into urban warfare.
