Ukraine accused North Korea of participating in Russia’s war against Ukraine in exchange for access to Russian missile and nuclear weapons expertise, as well as other military technology on Saturday.

The claim was made on Saturday during a joint press conference in Kyiv, where Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Japanese Foreign Minister Ivaya Takeshi addressed reporters.

Sybiha argued that Russia had involved North Korean troops in the conflict, suggesting that the alliance was part of a broader arrangement in which North Korea gained access to Russian military technology. This, Sybiha said, is intended to support North Korea’s ongoing tensions with South Korea.

Takeshi also condemned the presence of North Korean troops in Russia, warning that their involvement could have negative consequences not only for Ukraine but for the entire Asian region.

The situation remains under scrutiny as the war in Ukraine continues to draw in various global actors, with both Ukraine and Japan expressing concern over the implications of such alliances.
