UK withdraws objection to ICC’s arrest warrant for Netanyahu

The newly formed U.K. government under Prime Minister Keir Starmer has retracted its objection to the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
New government’s position on ICC’s decision
The Starmer-led government, which assumed office on July 6, indicated a different approach from the previous administration. Reports suggested that the new government would not object to the ICC’s arrest warrant for Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant.
A spokesperson from the U.K. Prime Minister’s Office, known as 10 Downing Street, confirmed that the new government would not pursue the previous administration’s objection.
The spokesperson emphasized that the matter is for the court to decide, stating, “The government neither supports nor opposes the ICC’s case against Netanyahu. We firmly believe in the rule of law and the separation of powers.”
Starmer, in a statement made in May, asserted, “The court should make its decision in due time. I support the court and international law.”
