Türkiye swiftly helped Iran’s rescue mission after the helicopter tragedy dispatching two mountaineer search and rescue personnel and six vehicles, says AFAD

Türkiye came to Iran’s aid after the helicopter carrying President Ebrahim Raisi and his accompanying delegation crashed in the mountains while returning to Tehran after the inauguration of joint projects between Iran and Azerbaijan on the Araz River.

In a statement released by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), Iran had requested night vision search and rescue assistance from Türkiye after the helicopter carrying Iranian President Raisi crashed in the mountains.

AFAD stated that two mountaineer search and rescue personnel and six vehicles were immediately dispatched.

Additionally, one Akinci UAV and one Cougar-type helicopter with night vision capability have been assigned to participate in search and rescue activities, read the statement.

The location of the wreckage was also determined by the Akinci UAV sent by Türkiye.

After the Akinci UAV started its mission in the mountainous region, it detected a heat source that was thought to be part of the helicopter’s wreckage.

The coordinates of this area were sent to Iranian authorities. Upon arrival, the authorities recovered the missing bodies of the Iranian officials and others aboard the aircraft.
