The 1st Meeting of Foreign Commissions of the Turkic States Organization was held in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan.
The meeting, hosted by Samet Seyidov, Chairman of the International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Committee of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, was attended by Fuat Oktay, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Turkish Grand National Assembly; Dilorom Favziyeva, Chairperson of the International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Committee of the Parliament of Uzbekistan; Aydos Sarım, Deputy Chairman of the International Relations, Defense, and Security Committee of the Parliament of Kazakhstan; Leyla Lurova, Deputy Chairperson of the International Relations, Defense, Security, and Migration Committee of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan; Yasemin Ozturk, Chairperson of the Committee on Law, Political Affairs, and External Relations of the Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus; and Mehmet Sureyya Er, Secretary-General of TURKPA.
Speaking at the meeting, Oktay said, “We consider the realization of the Zengezur Corridor as very important. The opening of the corridor will connect Türkiye to our ancestral homeland in Central Asia and will establish the integrity of the Turkic geography. As the Turkic world, we continue to support Azerbaijan for the successful completion of this process.”
Additionally, Oktay conveyed his condolences to Kazakhstan for the flood disaster and expressed Türkiye’s readiness to assist if needed.
Turkic tradition requires advocating for justice for Palestine
Oktay addressed Israel’s attacks on Gaza, stating, “Our tradition requires us to uphold justice and stand firm against injustices. Since October 7, an unprecedented massacre has been taking place in Palestine before the eyes of the world. We cannot turn a blind eye to this massacre. Our joint stance as the Turkic world will serve as an example to the international community. We must demonstrate our opposition to Israel’s aggressive stance.”
