Trump to ‘absolutely’ impose tariffs on European Union
U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday he will “absolutely” impose tariffs on the European Union, citing the bloc’s unfair treatment of the U.S.
“They have treated us so terribly,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, adding, “I will impose tariffs on the European Union.”
This statement comes as the White House confirmed Trump will move forward with imposing new tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China this weekend.
“I can confirm that tomorrow, the Feb. 1 deadline that President Trump set several weeks ago continues,” White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said Friday.
The decision to stick with the original timeline follows media reports that suggested Trump would delay the tariffs until March 1. The tariffs are expected to lead to retaliatory actions from the targeted countries, which rank among the U.S.’s top three trading partners.
