U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has appointed real estate investor Steven Witkoff as his special envoy to the Middle East, marking a significant addition to his incoming administration. The announcement, made Tuesday, highlights Trump’s continued emphasis on securing experienced business leaders within his team.

In a statement, Trump described Witkoff as a “highly respected leader in business and philanthropy,” praising his efforts to improve communities and projects alike. “Steve will be an unrelenting voice for peace, and make us all proud,” Trump added.

Witkoff, founder and CEO of the Witkoff Group, brings decades of experience in property development and investment. Known for his support of Trump’s previous campaigns, Witkoff was reportedly at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate during an alleged second assassination attempt against Trump in September.

In addition to his business ties, Witkoff has been vocal in his support of Israeli interests. In a July interview with Fox News, he called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress “strong” and “epic,” and criticized Democrats who boycotted the speech.

The appointment underscores Trump’s efforts to shape his administration with figures loyal to his vision and influential within the business world. Witkoff’s established connections in both real estate and Middle Eastern diplomatic spheres signal a focus on leveraging private sector expertise in foreign policy.
