Tragic fire claims 11 lives in Delhi paint factory fire
Massive fire outbreak in Delhi’s Alipur paint factory claims 11 lives and leaves 4 injured, prompting a major emergency response
A fire engulfed a paint factory in Delhi’s Alipur area, resulting in the death of 11 individuals and injuries to four others on Thursday evening.
The blaze that affected a chemical godown was eventually brought under control after a strenuous effort by the fire brigade.
The Delhi Fire Department confirmed that the fire originated in two paint and chemical godowns. Firefighting operations involved at least 22 fire-tenders and extended over several hours before the blaze was contained by 9 p.m.
Officials from the department indicated that the deceased have been moved to Babu Jagjeevan Ram Hospital, while the injured are receiving treatment at Raja Harish Chandra Hospital.
Eyewitness Sumit Bharadwaj recounted the horror, saying, “The incident took place at around 5:30 p.m. We heard an explosion and saw everyone gathering to fight the fire,” as reported by news agency ANI.
The Delhi Police noted that the fire was preceded by a blast, likely caused by chemicals stored in the factory. This explosion also led to adjacent houses and shops catching fire, contributing to the casualties and injuries.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be officially determined, ABC News reports that the fire began on the ground floor, trapping victims above with no escape route. The recovery of charred bodies from the rubble signals the severity of the incident.
