Thousands of homeless in Paris displaced ahead of Olympics

Thousands of homeless Parisians were forcibly displaced from their encampments in the heart of the city just days before the start of the Olympic Games. Nearly 12,000 homeless people are waiting for the Games to end on Aug. 11 so they can return “home.”
In preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, France evicted irregular migrants from their accommodation in and around the capital. According to the report on the homeless displaced a year ago, 12,545 homeless people, including 3,434 children, were expelled from the area where the Olympic Village is located.
“It is hard not to make a connection between this eviction and the Paris Olympic Games,” the report said. Esperance M., President of the Timmy Association, emphasized that they wanted to create the perception of a city without poverty and said, “Thousands of homeless people are being kept in a separate part of the city so as not to spoil the ‘eye pleasure’ of tourists.”
It was learned that the homeless will be allowed to return to their areas as of Aug. 11, when the Olympics will end.
