Syrian opposition forces announced Friday the launch of a new military operation aimed at capturing the strategic city of Manbij from the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in northern Syria.

The operation, announced through the opposition forces’ “Dawn of Freedom” operations room, marks a significant escalation in the region’s ongoing power struggle. Manbij, which has been under SDF control, represents a crucial strategic point in northern Syria.

The announcement comes amid long-standing tensions between Turkish-aligned Syrian opposition forces and the Kurdish-led SDF in the northern corridor of Syria. The city of Manbij has been a flashpoint of conflict, sitting at a crucial crossroads between different spheres of influence in the region.

The military campaign was officially declared through a formal statement bearing the emblem of the Syrian National Army, displaying their intent to establish control over the territory currently held by the SDF.

The offensive represents the latest development in the complex web of alliances and conflicts that have characterized the Syrian civil war, particularly in the country’s northern regions where multiple factions vie for territorial control.
