Swedish prosecutors announced the termination of the investigation into the explosions at the Nord Stream gas pipelines

Swedish prosecutors announced Wednesday that they would halt their investigation into the Nord Stream 1 and 2 gas pipelines and transfer the evidence they have gathered to German investigators for further examination.

The Nord Stream pipelines, carrying Russian gas to Germany under the Baltic Sea, experienced explosions in September 2022, causing ruptures and releasing significant amounts of methane.

The Swedish Prosecution Authority stated that Swedish jurisdiction did not apply, leading to the decision to close the investigation.

The Swedish prosecutors concluded that there was no evidence indicating Swedish involvement in the attack in international waters. Public Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist stated, “Against the background of the situation we now have, we can state that Swedish jurisdiction does not apply.”

Russia has blamed the U.S., Britain, and Ukraine for the explosions, which disrupted its access to the European market. The accused countries have denied any involvement. If the ongoing investigations do not produce conclusive evidence, the mystery surrounding this significant act of infrastructure sabotage may remain unsolved.
