Stampede at religious ceremony kills 87 in India
The death toll from a stampede at a mass prayer event in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has risen to 87.
According to NDTV, the stampede occurred during a “satsang” in Sikandara Rau, a town in the Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh.
Ashish Kumar, an official from the Hathras district, reported that 87 people, including children, have died in the stampede, and the injured have been hospitalized.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
