Spain arrests Daesh suspect with help from Morocco’s intelligence
Spanish National Police, in collaboration with Morocco’s General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), arrested a man in Teulada, Alicante, suspected of being a member of the terrorist organization Daesh.
Charges and suspect’s activities
The suspect faces charges of integrating a terrorist organization, recruitment, indoctrination and glorification of terrorism, according to a statement from the Spanish police. The investigation revealed that the individual was actively producing and disseminating pro-Daesh propaganda. In recent weeks, there has been a marked increase in both the volume and radical nature of his publications.
Authorities reported that the suspect had created his own materials, which he openly shared on social media platforms. The suspect’s activity placed him in regular contact with other individuals previously arrested for Daesh terrorism in Spain and Morocco, as well as with foreign terrorists in the conflict zones of Syria and Iraq.
Moroccan arrests linked to terrorism
On the same day, Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) arrested four Daesh-affiliated suspects for their alleged involvement in plotting terrorist operations targeting Morocco. According to a statement from BCIJ, the arrests took place in separate simultaneous operations in the cities of Sale, Tangier and Tetouan.
After raiding the suspects’ residences, BCIJ found electronic equipment and weapons, as well as a Daesh flag. They also discovered publications on making and assembling explosive devices. The preliminary investigation shows that the suspects, aged between 21 and 41, were planning “extremely dangerous terrorist projects targeting vital and sensitive” areas and buildings across Morocco.
Preparation and international links
The BCIJ statement added that the suspects were effectively engaged in the preparation of the terrorist plots and had identified their targets. They also established links with Daesh leaders operating abroad to receive support and collect payment for the operations after their execution in Morocco.
