Shooting at school in Madison, Wisconsin leaves at least 5 dead, multiple injured
A shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin has left at least five dead and five injured, according to initial reports.
The Madison Police Department confirmed that the attacker may have been neutralized, though the identity of the perpetrator remains unknown.
Authorities expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, calling it “a very tragic day, not just for Madison, but for our entire nation.”
Abundant Life Christian, a private school serving students from preschool to 12th grade, has an enrollment of approximately 400 students. The incident adds to a troubling trend, with 349 school shootings reported last year and 322 so far this year in the United States.
Additionally, agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have responded to the scene.
Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., wrote on social media: “My sincere condolences and prayers for all the victims of the tragedy at Abundant Life Christian School. I will continue to closely monitor the situation.”
Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers also responded, stating: “I am closely monitoring the incident at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison. We are praying for the kids, educators, and entire Abundant Life school community as we await more information and are grateful for the first responders who are working quickly to respond.”
