Ukrainian intelligence reports indicate that a drone attack has inflicted damage on the Russian patrol ship Sergei Kotov in the Black Sea.

Ukrainian intelligence reports indicate that a Russian patrol ship, the Sergei Kotov, sustained damage in a drone attack in the Black Sea during the early hours of Tuesday.

Launched in 2021 as part of the Russian Navy’s Project 22160, the vessel reportedly suffered damage to its stern and both sides.

The Kremlin has not yet commented on the incident. Ukrainian intelligence official Andrii Yusov stated in an interview with the media broadcasting organization RFERL that the attack resulted in casualties among the sailors on board.

Sergei Kotov has been linked to the attack on Snake Island during the initial stages of Ukraine’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.

The vessel, along with the Moskova cruiser, played a role in the invasion, which Ukraine eventually sank in the same year.

Tensions between Ukraine and Russia have been longstanding, particularly following Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea almost a decade ago.

In recent months, Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russia’s Black Sea fleet stationed on the Crimean peninsula, reflecting the ongoing conflict in the region.
