Istanbul protesters rally against Guinea-Bissau’s withdrawal of flags from Gaza-bound aid ships, condemning Israeli actions and affirming solidarity with Palestine

The International Freedom Flotilla Coalition staged a protest in Istanbul on April 27 against Guinea-Bissau’s decision to retract its flag from ships intending to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.

In Sultanahmet Square, demonstrators voiced their opposition to Israel with banners reading “Stop the Attacks on Civilians” and “Support Palestine.”

Protesters recalled the ban on the Palestinian flag in 1967 by symbolically marching with watermelon slices, a significant emblem of that period.

Representing the group, Marry Ann Wright stated that Guinea-Bissau had withdrawn its flag from two of the four ships in the Freedom Flotilla.

Wright asserted that this decision by Guinea-Bissau aided Israel in its alleged illegal blockade and oppression of Palestinians in Gaza, despite one of the ships being loaded with over 5,000 tons of aid.

Despite potential consequences, Wright expressed their resolve to reach Gaza’s people, highlighting Israel’s alleged refusal to provide essential aid as evidence of its severity.
