President Erdogan Sends Letter to Pope Regarding Gaza Crisis
President Erdogan penned a letter to Pope Francis, urging efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan dispatched a letter to Catholic leader and Head of State of the Vatican, Pope Francis. The letter was delivered by the President of Religious Affairs, Ali Erbaş, during their meeting.
Through the correspondence, President Erdogan implored the Pope to collaborate in achieving a ceasefire in Gaza.
President Erdogan highlighted the violation of international law in Gaza and stressed the necessity to halt it.
In his communication with the Pope, President Erdogan stated, “Humanity must speak out against the bombardment of medical facilities, educational institutions, places of worship, and cultural sites, which should remain unharmed even during times of conflict.”
Despite Israel’s ongoing assaults since October 7, measures towards attaining enduring peace in Gaza have yet to be taken. Despite being indicted for genocide in the International Court of Justice, the interim measures issued by the ICJ have not been enforced.
The United Nations has also faced setbacks in its endeavors to foster peace in Gaza.
Hence, President Erdogan’s message to the Pope is regarded as a significant endeavor to achieve a ceasefire.
Since October 7, a total of 33,686 Gazans have perished in Israel’s continued assaults.
