Over a dozen Nigerian children abducted from school by gunmen, say authorities
Over 400 women and children were abducted in two distinct attacks on schools and internally displaced persons (IDPs) within the last week
Suspected bandits have abducted over a dozen students and a woman in northwestern Nigeria, as reported by a school official.
A group of armed men attacked Gidan Bakuso, a remote town in the Gada Local Government area in Sokoto State early Saturday, according to resident Liman Abubakar.
Abubakar, the head of the Islamic school, mentioned that the assailants fired randomly, resulting in the death of a resident and the abduction of students who were trying to escape amidst the chaos.
He stated that 15 students are unaccounted for after a head count following the incident.
However, police spokesperson Ahmad Rufai informed Anadolu news agency that the authorities are still determining the number of individuals taken.
“We are unsure of the exact number of those abducted. Our tactical team has been dispatched to the area to gather information for prompt action,” he stated.
Since January, kidnappings have been increasing in Nigeria.
Within the last week, more than 400 women and children have been kidnapped in separate assaults on schools and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the northern region.
