Opposition leader Machado claims victory in Venezuelan presidential election
Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado claimed that, according to their records, they won the presidential election in Venezuela with 73% of the vote.
Speaking to the press at party headquarters in Caracas, Machado argued that the election results announced by the National Electoral Council (CNE) were incorrect.
Machado, asserting that the United Democratic Platform (PUD) candidate Edmundo Gonzalez won the election, stated, “We received 73.20% of the votes, and these results show that our candidate Gonzalez won. The margin was huge, and we had an overwhelming lead in all the states of Venezuela.”
According to their records, President Nicolas Maduro received 2,729,256 votes, while their candidate Gonzalez received 6,275,182 votes, Machado claimed.
Meanwhile, the streets and avenues of Caracas were quiet during the day, with shopping centers and stores remaining closed.
