Oil tanker catches fire off Germany’s coast
A fire broke out aboard the oil tanker Annika early Friday morning in the Baltic Sea, prompting the swift rescue of all seven crew members, according to Germany’s Central Command for Maritime Emergencies. The tanker, which was carrying around 640 tonnes of oil, was anchored in Mecklenburg Bay when the fire erupted.

All seven crew members aboard the 73-meter Annika, a German-flagged vessel, were safely evacuated and brought to shore. Emergency services acted quickly, dispatching three vessels and several firefighting teams to contain the blaze.
Firefighting efforts underway
Firefighting teams are continuing their operations to control the fire, with helicopters transporting additional personnel to the site. The tanker remains tethered to a tugboat, and authorities are focused on preventing any potential environmental impact from the oil on board.
Preventing environmental damage
Given the tanker’s significant oil cargo, German authorities are on high alert to mitigate any ecological risks. Teams remain vigilant as firefighting efforts continue to suppress the flames.
