North Korea attributes its military advancements to international sanctions led by the U.S., vows to enhance military capabilities amid heightened tensions with joint U.S.-South Korea exercises

A foreign ministry official has indicated that the military development of North Korea has been propelled by international sanctions, spearheaded mainly by the U.S., North Korea’s state broadcaster KCNA said.  The recent nuclear tests conducted by North Korea were assessed as indicative of this.

In a significant statement on Wednesday, Kim Yo Jong, the influential younger sister of North Korean President Kim Jong Un, declared that North Korea will persist in bolstering its military capabilities in response to the joint military exercises conducted by South Korea and the U.S., underscoring the gravity of the situation.

The U.S. has recently escalated its military exercises in areas close to North Korea and China. Specifically, the frequency of military exercises between South Korea and the U.S. has increased recently.

North Korea alleges that the military drills conducted by the U.S. are, in fact, strategic preparations for a potential nuclear conflict explicitly targeting North Korea.

“We are used to U.S. sanctions, and we have the ability and great power to stand up to any harsh sanctions,” the foreign ministry official said, according to KCNA.
