Haley cast doubts on Trump’s suitability for office over confusion with Nancy Pelosi
Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley raised doubts about Trump’s mental fitness for the presidency after he mistakenly identified her as Nancy Pelosi in a peculiar rally speech.
During a rally in Keene, New Hampshire on Saturday, Haley remarked: “We see Biden has changed so much in two years,” referring to recent developments.
She then highlighted Trump’s confusion at a rally the previous night, where he repeatedly mentioned her in connection to the Capitol riots on Jan. 6, 2021, despite her absence from Washington, D.C., and not holding office during that time.
Trump falsely accused Haley of overseeing security lapses on Jan. 6, a claim previously debunked, and Haley expressed concern over potential mental fitness issues, saying: “When you’re dealing with the pressures of the presidency, we can’t have someone else that we question whether they’re mentally fit to do this.”
Trump’s cognitive abilities have faced scrutiny for repeatedly confusing individuals on the campaign trail, including President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama.
Responding to questions about his mental fitness, Trump asserted at a New Hampshire rally that he deliberately mixes up names to imply “Obama is running the show” and reiterated claims of recent cognitive test success.
Both Trump and Haley held rallies in New Hampshire ahead of the state’s primary on Jan. 23, intensifying their exchanges in recent weeks.
Despite trailing Trump in state polls, the race in New Hampshire presents a potential opportunity for Haley to challenge the frontrunner.
