Alexei Navalny’s close ally claims in a video that the opposition leader was targeted on Putin’s orders just as a prisoner swap, securing his release, was nearing completion

A video released by Alexei Navalny’s team alleges that he was deliberately targeted and killed under orders from President Vladimir Putin just before a planned prisoner exchange.

This exchange would have resulted in Navalny’s release in exchange for a Russian intelligence agent imprisoned in Germany.

In the YouTube video titled “Why did Putin kill Navalny now?” Maria Pevchikh, a close ally of the opposition leader, stated that after extensive efforts to secure a prisoner swap for Navalny, “our plan was approved by the spring of last year.”

Pevchikh revealed that Navalny was on the verge of being set free as “we had secured a decision on his exchange.”

She mentioned the involvement of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, who acted as a direct link between Western officials and Putin to facilitate the agreement.

According to Pevchikh, the proposed exchange included Vadim Krasikov, an FSB agent imprisoned in Germany for the 2019 murder of a former Chechen commander, along with “two American citizens.”

She further claimed that on the evening of Feb.15, she was informed that the swap was imminent.

However, she suspected that Putin had a change of heart.

The following day, on Feb.16, Navalny reportedly collapsed and died after a walk in the penal colony where he was detained, located north of the Arctic Circle.
